Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, (about 3 years ago), golf lessons were much more difficult than they are in the modern day. A typical golf lesson involves 4 major steps. First, the instructor and the student get to know each other. The instructor becomes familiar with the student's goals and expectations. This is also a time for the instructor to get a read on what type of "learner" (visual, kinetic, sequential, mathematic, etc.) the student is.
Next, the instructor needs to observe the student and assess the best way(s) for the student to move toward his or her goals. This is where the instructors complete understanding of the golf swing and the human kinesiology is essential.
Then a tricky part of the lesson takes place. The instructor must communicate to the student "what" is going correctly and "what" needs improvement. In the "olden" days, this part of the lesson took up a significant portion of the session. If the student didn't understand or trust what the instructor was saying and observing, then the lesson was doomed to failure. Today, thank goodness, we have "Video Swing Analysis" which lets the student see exactly what the instructor sees. As you may have heard many times, "What you do in a golf swing and what you feel may be two completely different things." In other words, "FEEL ISN'T REAL" when it comes to the golf swing.
With good communication and trust in knowing "what needs improvement", the lesson can quickly move on to the important and final stage: Teaching the student how to achieve the necessary changes. The final stage is what the student is paying for, but without the first three stages properly implemented, the teaching phase will not be performed properly.
Video Swing Analysis:
Golf Advantage, Inc. utilizes the JC Video Swing Analysis system (www.jcvideo.com). JC Video is the market leader in Digital Video Instructional Systems and has set the industry standard by which all other systems are measured.
The vast majority of golf lessons at Golf Advantage, Inc. utilize this method to help the students to know exactly what parts of their swings need improvement. For "visual" learners, this is a must. Even for "non-visual" learners, the modern day Video Swing Analysis systems provide golfers with the necessary trust that ONLY comes from "seeing what the instructor sees."
Short Game School:
One of the strong points of Golf Advantage, Inc. is the knowledge and ability to teach the most important part of the game: The Short Game. Golf Advantage, Inc. offers both Short Game Private Lessons as well as its Short Game School. Private lessons provide the students with one on one attention and allow the instructor to fully analyze the techniques, strategies, strong points and weak points of each student.
Golf Advantage, Inc. Short Game Schools are conducted just like continuing education "night school" classes. There are 6 class sessions to each "semester", there are class lectures and demonstrations on the best techniques, the students have plenty of time for "in-class exercises", they receive homework and each student is tested on what they've learned. It's a fun, exciting, educational class that permanently lowers each student's handicap.
Putting Lessons:
Another of Golf Advantage, Inc.'s strong points is its' ability to teach putting techniques, strategy, imagination and mechanics. At Legacy Golf Club, we have access to one of the finest short game and putting facilities anywhere. We will start with your set-up and aim. Then we'll work on your technique and putting stroke with an emphasis on using the "correct putting muscles". We'll make sure you understand how to keep the club head on path and the shaft on plane to give you the highest odds possible that your putts will start on line. Finally, we'll work with you on your strategy and teach you how to read the greens.
Playing Lessons
Often times golfers don't make the same mistakes on the driving range that they do on the golf course. Some times they don't aim properly, other times they make swing errors that a golf instructor can't notice on the practice range. There are also instances when a golfer's biggest weakness is not in his technique or golf swing, but in his strategy or course management.
In any of these occasions, a playing lesson is much more practical than a traditional "practice facility" lesson. Golf Advantage, Inc. performs a good deal of playing lessons. We have access to Legacy Golf Club at Lakewood Ranch which has won countless awards since opening in 1997. Most recently, it was listed as the "top daily fee golf facility" in Southwest Florida by both the Zaggat Survey and Golf Digest. An Arnold Palmer design, Legacy Golf Club offers Golf Advantage, Inc. an outstanding golf course and easy access for Playing Lessons.
Beginner Clinics
As a PGA managed Golf Operation, Golf Advantage, Inc. is dedicated to growing the game of golf. Therefore, we offer Beginner Golf Clinics that guarantee to have beginners golfing after six sessions or the customers get their money back (which hasn't happened yet). Golf Advantage, Inc. has a great deal of experience and proven methods to teach students how to swing, pitch, putt, play, practice, and begin enjoying a "game of a lifetime".
As any good beginner clinic should, Golf Advantage, Inc.'s Beginner Clinics stress the grip, stance, aim, posture, swing, short game & putting fundamentals. In addition all students will learn "golf etiquette" and "how to practice". Our final sessions will always involve a playing lesson to make sure our students are ready to take their games to the golf course.
